There are many stones and gems in the world that look otherworldly and for many, their appearance is the extent of this truth. In the case of the Peridot crystal, however, there are examples of these gems have arrived on Earth from 4.5 billion years of traveling around our solar systems: remnants of its formation.
Let us find out more about it!
Peridot Origins
Scientists believe that the gem formed during the early formation of our own solar system. The gem itself is made up mostly of iron and magnesium. Peridot is often found in a shade of yellow or lime-green. Examples of its simple form (Olivine) were even found in the moon from comet impacts.
Back to Basics
As we mentioned briefly, there are examples of this stone landing on Earth from outer space. Examples of its simple form (Olivine) were even found in the moon from comet impacts. That’s not to say that the gem only has extraterrestrial origins. It is, in fact, one of two gems (the other being diamond) that form in the upper layer of the Earth’s mantle.
Many gems start their journey in this area but few forms here. This is just one example of what we’ll look at during this article as we explore the Peridot gemstone. We’ll also look at the properties of the stone (both physical and metaphysical), the various meanings it holds, and the benefits of wearing Peridot jewelry.

Peridot Meaning
The Peridot gemstone meaning varies a little depending on what time period you look at. For example, if we travel back to Ancient Egypt we find that Cleopatra who beyond being an admirer of the gem’s beauty believed that it had the power to ward off evil spirits.
While many believe Cleopatra favored Emeralds, evidence has suggested these were actually Peridot stones. So much of her jewel collection was, in fact, Peridot jewelry. She even had a Peridot bracelet! We even find examples of this gemstone being used in Germany in the Cologne Cathedral.
Nowadays (mainly due to having a better understanding of the gem’s origins) we have an even higher appreciation of it. This stone symbolizes the very core elements of the Earth and other natural bodies (such as other planets and even the sun).
This is mainly due to the creation of this gem near the core of the Earth. As such, it represents renewal and rebirth. It has also come to be a symbol of prosperity and as having the natural ability to ward off evil spirits. This, of course, takes us into some of the metaphysical properties of Peridot.
Peridot Gem Properties
All stones of this nature contain certain metaphysical properties that vary from one to the other. For example, a Peridot stone will differ from the Citrine metaphysical properties. The two main areas we will take a look at here are Peridot healing (through its interaction with our natural energy) and the effect of wearing the stone in jewelry form.
Chakras
Our Chakras are the energy hubs we all possess and occasionally they can become blocked (often as a result of negative energy). Peridot offers us two main interactions in terms of our chakras. It naturally connects to the Heart Chakra and the Solar Plexus Chakra.
This means that if either of these Chakras becomes blocked, you can use this particular stone to quickly and efficiently clear and unblock them. They will also offer some cleansing properties to the rest of your Chakras but the focus will be on these two.
So let’s take a look at a method you may you when suffering from a blocked Heart Chakra or Solar Plexus Chakra. Cleansing two Chakras at once isn’t as difficult as it sounds. You want to start off as if you were beginning a meditation session: find somewhere quiet where you won’t be disturbed and get comfortable.
Take a few deep breaths until your mind and body begin to relax. You then want to hold the gem to your chest (your Heart Chakra) and visualize the transfer of healing energy from the stone to your Chakra flow.
Imagine a powerful wave crashing into a sandcastle on the beach but the castle is your blocked Chakra and the wave is the gem’s energy. As it clears, visualize the energy-carrying on through to your Solar Plexus Chakra.
Jewelry
Many of these gems are turned into jewelry. The benefit of this is that it allows you to naturally and passively absorb any energy emitted by whatever gems you are wearing.
For this one, in particular, a Peridot necklace serves the most practical function: it will be near your Heart Chakra and will allow energy flow freely through this Chakra and your Solar Plexus chakra, aiding in keeping energy flow naturally high.
Of course, if you wear a bracelet or another form of jewelry then you will still notice benefits…the issue is that they may be a little less effective.
