Throat Chakra

When it comes to the Throat Chakra, you probably have several questions on your mind. Despite the fact that we’ve had knowledge of Chakras since ancient times, many of us are still unaware of what they are or how they affect our lives. You may be asking yourself, “how do you know if your Throat Chakra is closed?” or maybe, “how do I open my chakras?” We’re going to answer all of these questions as we discuss the topic of Throat Chakra healing. Along the way, we’ll discuss some of the different methods used for healing this chakra.

What is the meaning of the Throat Chakra?

The best place to start when discussing any of the Chakras is at the beginning. So, what is the meaning of this Chakra? Chakras are an ancient idea or tool that has been passed down from some of the earliest civilizations. Sanskrit is one of the world’s oldest languages, and yet we find mention of Chakras within Sanskrit texts. Vishuddha is the Sanskrit word for the Chakra associated with your throat.

Vishuddha holds its own meaning as well though, and it’s through this (and the words associated with the other 6 Chakras) that we can gain a better understanding of what each Chakra means or represents. Vishuddha translates as meaning ‘purification’. It’s associated with a blue color which is said to highlight the purification power of water in its natural forms.

Whenever ancient cultures mention purification, water is almost always involved. Most cultures have a flood story, where the world was cleansed of negativity through a mighty deluge. Your Guardian Angel can help guide you towards this level of spiritual growth and knowledge!

What does the Throat Chakra control?

Now that we understand the meaning behind this Chakra, what does this Chakra control? Think for a moment about the location of this Chakra. As an energy hub, it lies in the throat area, but specifically it is located between the 3rd and 5th vertebrae of your spine. The energy expands forwards and outwards which allows the Chakra to essential cover your whole throat.

Much like any other Chakras, this one allows for your spiritual energy to flow freely from the Root Charka to the Crown Chakra. If any one Chakra becomes blocked, it can create physical and mental/emotional side effects.

In this area of the body, there are several parts carrying out important functions. For starters, you have the voice box. We need this in order to communicate, and so its no surprise that a blocked Chakra in this area can lead to problems with communication.

However, the opposite is also true. Having free-flowing energy can improve your communication abilities and allow you to express thoughts in a clearer manner. It’s also tied into our ability to hear, understand, and make decisions.

You also find the thyroid and parathyroid glands within this area. These produce hormones related to the normal functioning of your cells, the breakdown and release of calcium, and the functionality of the kidneys and intestines. The kidneys are our body’s natural purification centers, which are supported by the functionality of the intestines.

So, as you can see, this Chakra holds a connection to both internal and external purification, just as Vishuddha would suggest.

How do you know if your Throat Chakra is blocked?

Understanding the meaning and function of this Chakra allows us to become more aware of any problems that may exist.  But how do you know if this Chakra is blocked? A Chakra can face two main issues: it can be overactive or underactive.

Being underactive is usually a sign that a blockage exists within that Chakra or one of the earlier ones. When this Chakra becomes blocked, you may find yourself unable to communicate properly. Your voice will seem quiet, you might feel anxious, and you’ll become afraid of saying the wrong thing.

When it comes to expressing yourself, you’ll either forget the words or struggle to make your point in a way that others can understand. You may also find that your confidence takes a bit of a knock, and so standing up for yourself in any situation will feel more challenging that usual.

When this Chakra is overactive, you will use communication in a negative way. You may find yourself being extremely critical of others, yelling or shouting when it isn’t necessary, and talking over others when they clearly have something to say.

People with overactive Throat Chakras will likely seem cold, domineering, and short-tempered. They try so hard to appear unemotional, that they appear emotional.

With all of that in mind, let’s look at how you can return your Chakra to a place of balance and harmony.

How do I open my Throat Chakra?

If you’re wondering how to open Throat Chakra, healing is the simplest way to achieve balance. We often discussing opening the Chakra, but this can be used as a balancing tool, so don’t feel that it’s limited to those with blocked Chakras.

One popular method is to use Throat Chakra stones. They are gems or crystals that align with the energy of the Chakra. We generally find that blue stones are the best choice, such as the Lapis Lazuli, Blue Kyanite, Aquamarine, Amazonite or Turquoise. Meditating with these stones can bring balance to specific Charkas, but you can also wear them as jewelry as a way of healing your Chakras in a more passive way.

Another simple technique for Chakra healing is to cleanse your Chakras via a visualization meditation. To do this, find a quiet space and allow yourself to enter a meditative state. Picture your body as a stream of energy, with white light rising from the ground, entering your Root Chakra at the end of your spine, and leaving through you via the Crown Chakra above your head.

Focus that energy on each of the 7 Chakras, specifically any that you believe to be blocked. Allow the energy to wash any negativity away, like a wave washing away sand. Feel the flow of energy speed up and slow down until it’s able to flow through you at a natural level.
